LaBellaDonna: The Lumberjack Faery—now THAT is a bridesmaid outfit. (The pain of the laughter is deep.) Too bad I'm already married. Drat. Someone else will just have to steal it.

Annalucia: Yes, this friend, she is indebted to me and three other very patient women who were attired similarly as fairies. Forever. Especially since she brought photographs of her own wedding—an entire album's worth—to mine, so she could show my guests pictures of me dressed as a polyester fairy.

All in all, hers was a wedding I shall never forget, especially the reception, when everyone became drunk and people in Renaissance wear as well as fairies of several colors began doing the Electric Slide and gyrating suggestively to "Brick House."

I enjoy a theme wedding now and again, but most of all when the bride and groom change before the reception. Something about being in formalwear while the newlyweds are wearing full Federation regalia makes me uncomfortable!

The only proper theme to a wedding is "Wedding".

Actually, La BellaDonna, she was married in the Theme Wedding of the Cavalier period. She and the Unspeakable Ex were dressed in white velvet and white brocade (white with gold embroidery [by the demented hand of La BellaDonna] and gold trim for the bride, white with silver trim and pearls - 400 yards of trim for the groom). Since La BellaDonna is a stitchin' witch par excellence, she and the Unspeakable looked ... breathtaking. It was a prettier dress than Diana Spencer's, who married the next year. (His outfit was also prettier than Diana's.) And since the bridesmaids and groomsmen all stitched as well (or had access to those who did), they also looked superb. The requirement was merely blue and gold for the bridesmaids, blue and silver for the groomsmen; the shade(s) of blue were to individual taste, as long as the garb, it was historically correct.

The problem with the theme wedding is that everyone inevitably rents costumes, which are almost always ill fitting and cheap. Besides, who wants to look costume-y at their wedding?

Apparently many men, now that I think on it. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of buying a tuxedo. Really.

The bloody munchkin had a friend in college that insisted on being married by The Drunken Elvis in Vegas. For that bit of gumption, the bloody munchkin was in awe. The bloody munchkin could not be married by a drunken elvis, or have a theme wedding without being disowned, written out of the will, throttled and decapitated by the bloody munchkin's mother, in that order. It would not be the proper, as the bloody munchkin's mother would say...

The Lumberjack Faery! A most excellent idea for those who insist upon the themed weddings in inappropriate climates. And the wedding guests will be served hot cider, honey mead and roast wild boar, and all dances with incorporate the roaring, the stamping of feet, and the swinging of axes.

And molte grazie to LaBellaDonna for the link to the Dolce Divas; the Annalucia had not previously made their acquaintance but is now pleased to do so. Especially since their article on the boots leads off with the very tall black Naturalizer boot which the Annalucia wears on the dressy occasions in the cold weather. The Miu Mius and the Blahniks they are all very well, but it is the Naturalizer who is the unobtrusive but faithful servant to her feet, and she is happy to see it receive its due.

There is a reason why it is entitled A Midsummer Night's Dream, and not A Late Autumn, Nearly Winter Night's Dream. If one is expected to ponce about in the attire of the faery (which, actually, sounds very very pretty), one is entitled to ponce about in Italy in the middle of the summer; otherwise, in a tastefully appointed and suitably heated hotel. If one is expected to ponce about for a wedding in the woods in November, the only suitable oufit would be the Lumberjack Faery, with wings of tinsled plaid flannel, and a fur corset, cloak and boots.

I wish to draw to the attention of the Annalucia (hola to the Annalucia!) the blog of La Dolce Divas, whom I idly clicked onto, courtesy of The Manolo (of course). I think the Annalucia will find the philosophy, outlook, and sparkling tone of the ladies very much to her taste (if she has not yet discovered them herself). www.ladolcedivas.blogspot.com/

Some of the ``themed'' weddings in the article make more sense than others. For example the ``ethnic'' wedding will work if one's friends and family already own the appropriate festive dress, or are able to borrow it. But the ``Surprise Wedding'' (invite guests to what they believe is an ordinary party and only let them know of the wedding once they arrive) is a terrible idea. The guests (at least the female ones) will fret that they have not brought a present and that they have not dressed with sufficient gaiety, and they will resent that they have not been forewarned. And of the ``Honeymoon Wedding'' it is best not to speak at all.

To Tania: the metallic lame corset, in November, in the woods, it is so far beyond the call of friendship that as far as the Annalucia is concerned, this friend of yours is in your debt for the rest of her life.
