A nice day for a wench wedding

Serving wench bride

After yesterday’s rousing comment-based discussion regarding straps and strapless, sleeves, and modesty, I started looking into more modest wedding dress options*. I’ve always imagined that when I finally tricked The Beard into marrying me, I would walk down the aisle in something strapless, but I may become a short-sleeve convert. I loved what I found…with the exception of the dress above.

This mock two-piece gown with embroidered, scalloped overskirt and chapel train from Eternity Formalwear looks like it caters to brides who are planning to have a Dungeons & Dragons themed wedding or who want to assert their inner serving wench. All I can say is, Huh?

*Thanks for the tip, Jane C!

I agree–the dress is modest, but that corset! It looks like the kind of thing you’d see hanging on the clotheslines of widow ladies when I was growing up–except worn on the outside of the dress, not the inside.

I’ve always thought that since a wedding is a totally contrived theatrical event the bride might just as well wear an identifiable costume rather than just dress that has no basis in reality. So if the bride wants to be a wench, bless her, she should run with it.

And contradicting myself somewhat, I support your search for a dress with sleeves, never teh bride ; strapless dresses so seldom fit well.

And yet so many of the big designers are so in love with sleeveless, gidget bananas, not to mention spaghetti straps – which often fare even worse than sleeveless!

I must agree with The Charlotte Allen, however, in thinking that this bride perhaps got confused and accidentally put her underwear on the outside.

I don’t know…I sort of like that dress, although I think it would be alot cooler with the corset lace-up part in the back…its not half as bad as some of those potato sacks featured on the Mormon sites posted by another reader (whose name I cannot remember! forgive me!)
I have to admit, I am a busty girl with a broad back and even though I fancy a few of the strapless wedding gowns I have looked at lately, NOT ONE of them could stand up to the inevitable wedding reception Conga line test!
If possible, a few attractive wedding dress recommendations for the bustier population would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!! :)

It would be my pleasure, being that I myself am a busty girl!

For some reason, I love the gown with the faux fur in the Eternity Fall 2005 collection, maybe because I chill easily, or because it’s so different, yet elegant.

My own reason for preferring sleeves: I have square, lean, muscular shoulders that don’t look very feminine. My few sleeveless dresses only come out at night.

I’ve been looking for a non-ugly sleeved dress for weeks and having no luck at all…Never teh Bride, if you’ve found any attractive sleeved dresses, please post them! Also, I second the request for good busty-girl dresses…

I know this was posted a long time ago, but I was reading through the archives and I can’t help but comment. My first thought was “wow – i love this dress!” and was sad to see that NtB didn’t like it. Reading the rest of the post made me laugh out loud – I am planning a Dungeons and Dragons themed wedding! So – let me just say – this post is spot-on!
