If I must cave to uniformity…

By Never teh Bride

chinese tailor

…I can at least ensure that the ladies standing at my side on my wedding day are wearing dresses they will be able to use again and again, like this one from Chinese Tailor. I like this dress because of the fact that it is simple and yet flashy in a discrete way. From far away it will look relatively plain but up close it will shine. Plus, they are hand-sewn, made to order, and relatively cheap.

I used an online Chinese tailor — Transprism.com. I picked out the fabric (they send swatches if you ask!) and had my bridesmaids choose their own design and send in their measurements.

I have a piece of advice for all who would go this route: encourage your bridesmaids to have someone who knows how to take measurements take them. The temptation to have a clueless friend do it is too high, and then you get some weird looking dresses. My other piece of advice: force your bridesmaids to order the dresses far in advance, to leave time for alterations. That said, the Chinese online tailor is a smashing bargain. I also had my reception gown made by the same tailor.

Here is a picture of me at the reception making a goofy face (even at my own wedding, I couldn’t resist the urge to make the goofy face) next to one of my bridesmaids, both of us in dresses from the online Chinese tailor.

    Oooh, Tania, very nice.

As for that dress — to hell with the bridesmaids, I’d wear that as my wedding dress! *The Gidget loves the brocade!*

Would I wear this dress as a bridesmaid? Yes. Would I ever wear it again? No, but then, I hardly ever put on the dog, and I already have a few formal dresses that I like better than this one. I might have a dress like this one shortened after the wedding so I could go out and dance in it, but it looks non-breathable and non-washable. I think other gals might wear a long or knee-length version of this dress beyond the wedding, though.

Ooh, Tania, that’s gorgeous!! And I must concur regarding measurements. It’s always best to go to a professional tailor and have them do the measurements rather than trying to do them yourself or letting a friend help.
