Ooh, Tania, that's gorgeous!! And I must concur regarding measurements. It's always best to go to a professional tailor and have them do the measurements rather than trying to do them yourself or letting a friend help.

Would I wear this dress as a bridesmaid? Yes. Would I ever wear it again? No, but then, I hardly ever put on the dog, and I already have a few formal dresses that I like better than this one. I might have a dress like this one shortened after the wedding so I could go out and dance in it, but it looks non-breathable and non-washable. I think other gals might wear a long or knee-length version of this dress beyond the wedding, though.

Oooh, Tania, very nice.

As for that dress -- to hell with the bridesmaids, I'd wear that as my wedding dress! *The Gidget loves the brocade!*

I used an online Chinese tailor — Transprism.com. I picked out the fabric (they send swatches if you ask!) and had my bridesmaids choose their own design and send in their measurements.

I have a piece of advice for all who would go this route: encourage your bridesmaids to have someone who knows how to take measurements take them. The temptation to have a clueless friend do it is too high, and then you get some weird looking dresses. My other piece of advice: force your bridesmaids to order the dresses far in advance, to leave time for alterations. That said, the Chinese online tailor is a smashing bargain. I also had my reception gown made by the same tailor.

Here is a picture of me at the reception making a goofy face (even at my own wedding, I couldn’t resist the urge to make the goofy face) next to one of my bridesmaids, both of us in dresses from the online Chinese tailor.
