There’s something about Siri

By Never teh Bride

They call her Mellow Yellow

I love perusing the pages of Siri’s online catalog on days like today when the weather is crummy, I’m tired, and my to-do list is pages and pages long. Looking at their gorgeous dresses cheers me up in no time flat because going through their selection is like feasting my eyes on a rainbow. They have wonderful patterns and fabrics, of course, but, oh, the colors! All those vivid greens, oranges, blues, yellows, and pinks - it’s springtime in dress form!

As an added bonus, their styles tend toward the kind of classical patterns that work on a variety of figures. The halter, A-line, tea length dress above (known as the Siena Sundress) is summery and definitely re-wearable. While I like it in the creamy yellow Venus & Mars, this dress comes in a variety of other absolutely fabulous fabrics and colors.

That is one beautiful color N.t.B! Yellow is one of the more challenging colors to wear, IMO. Michelle Williams was lovely in her bright yellow Vera Wang gown - but the vast majority of use couldn’t wear a yellow that bright. But this one is really great.

  2. La BellaDonna Says:

The dress is lovely. But why, oh why is the model hunching her shoulders over and peering down her dress front? Is she grinning because she finally has something (grown or applied) to fill it? It makes for a hideously squnched and buckled dress bodice, and might lead the casual page-flipper to conclude that there’s something wrong with the dress itself.

  3. Never teh Bride Says:

I will never understand the poses they put models in. The poor models are always made to be staring down their shirt fronts, sniffing their pits, waving their arms about, or “lounging” in uncomfortably unreal positions.

  4. la petite chou chou Says:

I was going to comment on the model’s posture too. I tried doing that pose and it hurt. Hope they got it in one shot.

What lovely dresses! Damn you, NtB, for not posting that sooner! (Just kidding, I’m going through typical two-weeks-before-the-wedding Dress Angst.)

Oooh, pretty dresses. I want some of them for me! Also, I have to give kudos to any company whose MOB line isn’t all absolute frumpiness of the worst possible description. Why, most of those don’t look like anything Bea Arthur wore on Golden Girls! Is that allowed for moms at weddings? ; )

I do agree that poor girl’s posture in that shot is anything but attractive. It doesn’t do the dress any favors, either. And it really is a very pretty dress.

Wow! A bazillion gorgeous dresses, and stuff to fit all different body types: what more could you want? My personal favorite is the “Loren Party Dress.” I wish I were a brave enough seamstress to attempt it…

  8. jenny Says:

….Ooooh! And the whole “Parisian” outfit w/the black skirt & white blouse! Though I’d probably look more like a pub wench than a sophisticated femme fatale if I wore it. I just don’t have the whole “je ne sais quoi” thing goin’ on…

  9. Jessica Says:

I wonder if the “Katrina” dress got named before last summer.

My current issue is that I think one of my bridesmaids would prefer sleeves, and it is proving darned hard to find a line that includes even cap sleeves. (Watters & Watters does, but the Dupioni silk proved less attractive on than it did online.)

  10. jj Says:

I love their bridal dresses as well. Clean, modern, unfussy and best of all, availible in real silk!

  11. jenny Says:

Jessica, I feel your pain. That’s the first thing I noticed when I clicked on the link. I’m always looking for sleeves, and it seems that they’re becoming more and more an endangered species. Sometime’s it’s almost easier to get something you like, and have a good seamstress add some sleeves.

I am in love with these dresses. I want to get married in an orange dress, and I love all the color they are using.
What I don’t see/can’t find is a size chart. Are these only available in traditional straight sizes or do they go into plus sizes as well?
They are listed on the Beauty Plus Power plus size shopping directory site, but there is no info provided.

  13. Motormouth Says:

    Jenny/Jessica,

My bridesmaids went sleeveless, but my MOH had a nice matching stole made, which suited her nicely and covered her upper arms. Another option: I wanted to have my shoulders covered for the church ceremony, and asked the store where I bought my dress if they could make me a little bolero jacket. They actually measured me there and sent my measurements to the factory in China, where a bolero was made from the same lace that covered my dress. Beautiful! And, I took the jacket with me on my honeymoon, so the “I’m a princess!” feeling continued for an entire week! –Lynn

Great idea! I love it when you can actually carry one of your wedding pieces into other situations: multitasking at its best and most satisfyingly sentimental. You carry a [hopefully!] lovely memory with you each time you wear it. (That sounded sappy, but was entirely sincere.) I think that I’m going to wear my wedding-earrings tomorrow for Easter. Hooray for spring and flowers!

  15. Jessica Says:

Thanks, Motormouth. My current plan is to drag my most-reluctant bridesmaid to the shop where we bought my wedding dress, to figure out some style and color options, and then make a decision. I really wish I could go with Thread, but unfortunately nobody down here has the dresses to try on, and they’re a little pricier than I feel comfortable making my bridesmaids pay (one of them has her own wedding coming up next spring).

  16. Danielle Says:

    Hello
I am getting married in December and love the Siri website for bridesmaid dresses.
Does anyone know how they run in price? Thanks!

  17. LK Says:

This photo is bigger than the one that they show on their site. I guess they decided to shrink them a big so it’s harder to copy them, but it’s also harder to enjoy the detail. But perhaps the photo was also taken by B-rate photographer (excuse the insult, but obviously the person’s not top-rated) and an okay model. According to the last episode of America’s Next Top Model for their 6th cycle, photographers are looking for model to look like she is making eye contact and that her focus is on the person who looks at the photos. It isn’t a runway but a photoshoot, but I think you get my point.
