That’s actually a pretty clever idea! Depending on how many guests actually show up, the cake portions usually end up being the equivalent (or less) than that of the average cupcake.

“I’m looking into hosting a party…” is the line I was using when looking at rehearsal dinner locations without mentioning the work wedding. On book I read said a bride called a florist and got a quote for corsages, boutonnieres and “hand-held bouquets.” Only after everthing (indcluding the price) was agreed to did she ever mention the word wedding. That’s good!

I would think cupcakes or similar small bakery items in large quantities would be among the easiest things to get without mentioning the word ‘wedding’ at all. OTOH, it might be difficult to get, say, flowers including bouquets or invitations without saying what they’re for! LOL!

See now I don’t have a problem with the great wedding rip off, as the vendors providing the service also have to deal with the great wedding bridezilla frequently I imagine. Whilst you can argue that the rest of us shouldn’t be punished for not being bridezilla’s, the truth of the matter is that said vendors can’t tell when you call for a quote whether or not you’re going to be a massive pain in the bottom down the line! I think wedding tariff is justified. You expect a superior service for a wedding and will tolerate stuff ups much less.

Oh I’m having cupcakes at my wedding in late September! Luckily we are regulars at the bakery so I’m pretty sure they won’t try to rip us off. However I have been putting off calling florists because of the fear of the great wedding rip-off. I guess I need to bite the bullet and just call.

But yay again for the wedding cupcake!

Yum yum! I’m from Seattle, and worship at Cupcake Royale.

Word of warning, though: another bride posted on a message board about her experience ordering cupcakes. She told the bakery that they were for a wedding and was quoted – oh, let’s say $2.75 each. She had someone call back for a quote for the same cupcakes, without mentioning “wedding”, and was quoted significantly less. Another example of the great wedding rip-off. FYI, it wasn’t Cupcake Royale, it was a bakery in another city.

The cupcakes look fun, too. One nice thing about that is you can have several flavors and guests can pick what they like best!
