For bridesmaids with simply sophisticated tastes

Belted bridesmaids

Belts are hot right now, or so I’ve read. Not the sort of belt that your dad utilizes to hold up his double-knit slacks. I’m talking about thick belts, ribbony belts, chain belts, and belts that don’t even look like belts at all. This dress, by Currie-Bonner, features a thick, contrasting silk tie that, like a belt, defines the waist of the wearer and turns a rather plain floor-length dress into a chic, eye-catching ensemble.

Brides and bridesmaids have four fabrics–Dupioni silk, linen, satin organza, and faille–as well as a host of classic and fun hues to choose from. This dress even comes in a number of shades of white for brides who want a simpler, cleaner look. I’m partial to the ample coverage this dress affords ladies like me, who might not want to show off their entire décolleté area. And whose legs inexplicably maintain their wintertime pastiness all year long.

What a gorgeous dress! It almost makes me wish I was in a wedding this summer.

I’d buy it, mywhimsey, if I had a summery formal affair to attend.

It’s a nice dress. I’m just glad it comes in colors other than black! I know it’s fashionable, but I have this thing about black bridesmaids’ dresses. They give me the heebie-jeebies. Then again, I’m one of the few people I know who still goes out of their way to wear black to funerals. Color me old-fashioned, color-wise.

That dress is brilliant! Absolutely beautiful, and would be nice shorter, too.

Of course I always have to remind myself that, were I wearing it myself, I unfortunately would not be magically transformed into the gorgeous model who’s wearing it. I’ve had to repeat that mantra to myself multiple times recently as I gazed jealously at Audrey Tautou’s fab new gamine haircut. It’s like I always have lurking in the back of my mind the “Field of Dreams”-type idea that “If I wear it, the beauty will come…”

I know exactly what you mean, jenny. I’m always a little disappointed when I try something on that looked so beautiful in pictures only to find it doesn’t look so beautiful on me.

And Twistie, I agree about black bridesmaid dresses. They just seem kind of morbid. Unfortunately, the site only had color swatches. You couldn’t see the dress itself in other colors.

AND this dress could be cut down to knee length for future wearing – how rare is that? Imagine – a bridesmaid dress you actually get some use of out.

Also – I totally agree with Twistie & N.t.B – we went to a wedding 2 years ago that had just this somber effect. The women in the wedding party carried tasteful little nosegays of pale pink roses, which were totally ineffective against soooo much black.

Better they should have carried hot colored tropical flowers or even just big bunchs of pink Gerbera daisies.

Actually… I think this dress would look great shorter, but as is, it comes across as slightly Amish to me(I don’t know why I thought Amish… but that’s what popped into my head). I think it is the stiffness of the full skirt. I guess I prefer a skirt that falls closer (or softer) to the body. And I’m not a mini- I’m very much on the curvy (translate: hide my thighs please) side. Otherwise, the neckline and ribbon details are nice.
On the subject of black- I’m planning an informal wedding, and my bridesmaids are wearing their best little black dresses (within reason of course) and we are adding either a waist sash or shawl with the “color”.
