That's seriously impressive. I would feel guilty doing anything with that cake besides putting it behind a glass case.

Ahem. As my ex-girlfriend would remind me, change "guy" in the above to "partner," "intended," "beloved," or similar.

That cake practically makes me want to cry with its cheesy goodness.

My fiancé voted down all possibilities of cheese on the cake. I was soooo close to having a little Lego couple on top -- I even went shopping on eBay for a little Lego Han Solo minifig and a little Lego Princess Leia minifig. No dice, he said. So the moral of the story is, if you're going to go all out with a cheesy crazy cake, make sure that your guy is the kind of guy who would appreciate a cheesy crazy cake.

"If you want a cake shaped like the Enterprise, or Dracula’s Castle, and you share it lovingly with your spouse, more power to you, I say. "

Exactly! A wedding is supposed to celebrete the bride and groom and what they like. I am not having a white, froofy confection simply because Good Housekeeping, Martha Stewert, or my Aunt Glaydis think I should. (After all, they're not shelling out the money for the cake!)

That was quite good.

And I'm happy to say that I agree about the cake shoving. I plan on not marrying but if my guy shoved cake in my face it would be instant anullment (sp?).

Awwww! There's a bride who knows and loves her man just as he is - and who understands that it really is his day, too. Otherwise, let's face it, you just have a woman in a party dress, the formality of which is variable.

It's a happy omen, and I hope that Brent treasures his Annette the way she seems to treasure him.

As far as the Cheesy Cake (not cheesecake, which is also good) Question goes ... I'm thinking sometimes good taste is overrated; as long as the cake tastes good, and makes the Bride and Groom happy (and, my preference, isn't outright offensive), I believe they should go for it. I'd rather see a highly personal cake celebrating a special moment, even if it strays a little into the Cheesy, or even the Comical. If you want a cake shaped like the Enterprise, or Dracula's Castle, and you share it lovingly with your spouse, more power to you, I say. The only bad cake, IMO, is the cake that's shoved into the face of the unlucky spouse. For those who don't know, the symbolism behind feeding the cake to one another is of caring for and nurturing one another; it's not supposed to be a harbinger of Foodfights In the Future.

It's definitely a slippery slope, Carrie! There is a fine line between a great theme-y cake and one that looks like it ought to be at a kid's birthday party. Sometimes a baker who can do a great traditional cake will make a shoddy theme-y cake and vice versa.

At my brother's wedding, they had a cake with pink ribbons going down the cake like wrapping ribbon. It was adorable and cute. My brother had a groom's cake of a golfing scene.

Some of the new cakes are crazy with all of the designs. Some look really awesome like that one, but there's some that look cheesy. There's a show on Food Network about a cake designer and his cakes look super cheesy not like this awesome one.

Still, If I'm going to spend a fortune on a cake, why not a crazy fabulous cake that people will talk about for years?

I thought the X-Box shaped groom's cake posted before was cool, but this....

It makes we want to break out the old Game Boy.
