A totally sweet gown

By Never teh Bride

Good enough to eat - though I think I\'d rather eat the cake.

Viktoriya Shtefano wore one sweet gown when marrying pastry chef (and husband) Valentyn Shtefano. Accprding to Associated Press,

“Valentyn is a rising star in the field of baking as visual art, earning him a following in this city near the border with Slovakia. His creations have generated a buzz in a place where cake is often layers of heavy cream, wafers and nuts or poppy seeds - more something to eat than to look at.”

I don’t doubt it. His bride’s gown was made of 1,500 cream puffs and weighed a hefty 20 pounds. While it is certainly delicious to look at, it was probably less than edible once the couple’s wedding day rolled around, considering it took two months to make.

“At first, it was even a little embarrassing,” Viktoriya Shtefano said of the dress she wore to the couple’s reception in August at Uzhhorod’s 1,200-year-old castle. “Cameras, interviews, but after a couple of hours, I didn’t even want to take it off.”

This confection appears as well on Dress A Day. While I agree that there was an awful lot of love on the part of the bride who wore it, it does seem to me as if this dress was more about the bridgegroom, and his profession, than it was about the bride. I don’t get the impression that she longed, more than anything else in the world, to spend her wedding day wearing two-month-old cream puffs. At best, I would say it seems like an idea that the bridegroom got carried away with … at worst, it seems more than a bit controlling. I note that he’s not all got up in cream puffs.

Good point, La BellaDonna. Can you imagine how sticky and gross she must have felt after hours standing around in that thing?

I just keep imagining a cartoon “*splat!*” sort of sound when, as the evening wears on, the bride forgets that she’s covered in pastry and plops wearily down in the nearest chair. Tee-hee!

Actually, she looks like a character from “Candyland” come to life. “Countess Creampuff” or something like that.
