Cute incarnate
By Never teh Bride“Wintertime flower girls get cold, too, ya know.” That’s just a little message I’d like to shoot off to the designers and manufacturers of most flower girl dresses. Luckily there’s Smitherman & Barnwell. This purveyor of luxury at its best (and littlest) will keep your flower girl cozy in teeny tiny ankle-length gowns with….drumroll please….sleeves! And let’s not forget the matching jackets!

This beautiful silk beaded diamond pintuck jacket and gown comes in gold, white, champagne, lilac, and celery
On a Christmas-y and Chanukah-y note, if you happen to know any pre-k age future flower girls dancing with excitement over upcoming weddings, The Flower Girl by Laura Godwin makes a great holiday gift. This book explains the wedding from the point of view of the flower girl…in rhyme, of course.

SLEEVES!!!! Yay for sleeves!
I swear, I was beginning to think pretty soon we would see the strapless tuxedo at the rate things were going. I’m glad to see the pendulum swinging back a bit.

Oh, I saw the cutest flower girl on Sunday. I was at the Pittock Mansion and there were a couple of different bridal parties taking photos. One group had 4 bridesmaids and a flower girl. The bride had a fur shawl and the bridesmaids and flower girl all had pretty white fur capes tied at the neck with a big ribbon bow over their gowns.

Strapless tux? HAWT!
Wowzer, Kai Jones, Pittock Mansion looks like one luxurious place to tie the knot. Were you there for one of the weddings or for a tour?

For a tour–it’s open for a self-guided tour afternoons year-round, I went with my sister and her daughter, then we went to tea at a fancy-schmancy restaurant downtown, which was also full of little girls in their best fancy dresses. I think wedding parties just come up and use the grounds for photos without needing a permit or reservation; there are lots of good places to take pictures, from romantic couple shots on a bench nestled in trees to sweeping vistas fronted by the entire bridal party.
The non-profit that runs it does rent out a large, attractive room that used to be the billiards/play room, but not for private events, only to other community organizations.
