I work for Viddia and I'd like to clear up some mis-conceptions.

A) The company name is Viddia, not Viddea.

B) If your videographer is not already doing business with us, we'll put your video online for free. There are absolutely no catches. Its free.

C) When you use one of our existing videographer partners, we get the video directly from your videographer and charge your videographer $49 for the service. Many videographers pay for it themselves, some blend it into their package prices for their customers. Its up to your videographer.

D) Neither you nor your videographer can upload a long wedding video to Youtube as they have file size limits. Even if you could, it would monopolize your internet connection and probably take more than 24 hours to upload. (most wedding videos are several gigabytes in size). The resulting video quality will also MUCH lower on YouTube (not to mention it will probably suggest to all your viewers that they watch something nasty like the Tonya Harding wedding night video afterwards).

E) Viddia simply provides credit card processing and an e-commerce store for DVD sales. All proceeds from DVD sales are given directly to the videographer after a small commission is deducted.

Viddia wants to charge videographers put their video online, so Viddia can then sell copies to friends and family? Instead of the videographer selling those extra copies himself? Yeeeah, riiiiight.

Plus, you can just get your own website and put your videos on it. I don't know how myself, but my Eric is a nerd and great at that sort of thing.

Hmmm...no up-front explanation of the fees is not a good sign. And really, the only 'advantage' over YouTube that I can see is the fact you can keep complete strangers from watching your video. Honestly, if someone I don't know wants to watch my wedding videos, I say why not? It's not like our full names, addresses, computer passwords and credit card accounts are mentioned. Nothing secret happened. It was just a wedding. A nice one, but really, aside from those of us participating, most people wouldn't be that interested.

And no, I don't think this service is terribly relevant in a time of DVD burners that are cheap and easy to use. This would only appeal to people who are seriously behind the times, technology-wise, I imagine.
