Yep the only thing this confirmed to me is that I hate maids that dont match. Ok that isnt all true. the bottom three are nice and the blue one is actually pretty. But that top one is beyond ugly. For a wedding??? Maybe a junior prom.

You are correct in your first assertion, SJ! Those dresses came from Aria. That's so lovely that your choice to give your maids some freedom turned out so well. For some, it turns into something of a nightmare.

(My only complaint was that they were a little more expensive than I would have liked my BMs to spend on dresses)

Photos 2 and 3 are my favs as well.

NtB, correct me if I'm wrong, but they are from the same company, right?

And if I'm not mistaken, based on the 3rd photo, from the same company that my Bridesmaids did their dresses. I gave my BMs the complete freedom of color (except for the restrictions of yellow and orange), top style. Just requested that they all chose the same tonal range/fabric/and length from the same company.

Completely on their own or in dialog with each other they all came up with the same dress. I would have expected them to decide on different tops. But they all decided on the same dress and the fabric was absolutely perfect for an August wedding in DC. All of the dresses just needed simple inexpensive alterations and pretty much everyone has had their dresses shortened to knee length and now have great spring summer dresses. A couple turned the remaining fabric into purses. I love the fabric so much, I ordered a length of the two fabrics from the dress and turned it into a great pillow.

Silk shantung is a beautiful fabric.

Major props to the company who makes these dresses!

I like the shades of blue on that one picture. It's pretty and subtle. The one with the tartan is a little off, but not bad.

I like it! May not work for every wedding, especially if your going very formal. But, it's nice to let them pick their own dresses according to body shape, taste etc. One style definitely doesn't always fit all. I like the common theme with the sashes in the 2nd picture. And, since the bridesmaids have to buy their dress, maybe it will be something they can where again.

I suppose it depends on taste. Some of those pictures look pretty goofy to me (the one with the tophats especially). But I don't really "get" matching dresses; and I don't get doing it if you're only going to go halfway, either.
