Shake a leg, show you’re happy

By Never teh Bride

Mom and dad

Here’s a fun little anecdote I received a while back from Svetitsky:

We attended a friend’s wedding a few months ago and during the reception, all of the guests got up to dance a trio of pre-organized dances, each with a special meaning, for the bride and groom. The guests were from all over the country and had not gotten together to practice the three dances before the ceremony. So how did they manage to pull off such a performance? The older brother of the bride sent out CDs on which he recorded himself explaining the dance moves and - yes - demonstrating how the dances would look. All the guests had to do was pop the CD into their computer or DVD player and dance along with the bride’s brother. It was a lot of fun and only slightly embarrassing for the young bride and groom.

As a gift, it wouldn’t work for everyone — I know some people who come from families genetically cursed with nothing but left feet — but if your clique/family/tribe/network loves to don dancing shoes, why not consider putting together a similarly silly tribute?

Incidentally, the two people in the photo above are my mother and father, who divorced roughly twenty-three years ago. But don’t they look sweet? The fact that they can share a dance after so much conflict was one of the best wedding gifts I received.

Your mom’s dress is really pretty. I like the idea of dances versus those bad DJ’s who have all of those 5 year anniversary dance, 10 year anniversary dance, bridesmaid only dance, groomsman only dance, cousins dance, etc. I went to a friend’s wedding where the DJ did this and it killed the vibe of the celebration because whenever you wanted to dance with your significant other, you were constantly rebuffed. The few friends that she invited left early because the reception dancing part wasn’t very much fun.

Hee, that’s precisely why I didn’t have a DJ at my wedding. I was in the wedding party and kept being called upon to dance with the best man while the Beard sat alone at our table. Not so much fun for him!
