Brides decide. No one else. Only brides.

By Never teh Bride

Oh my stars. The knot, the nest, and WeddingChannel.com have gone political on me. I’m all for encouraging people to get involved in everything from school board elections to the resignation of Rove, but I’m not sure I see the relevance of Brides Decide, the web site whose tag line reads, “Get engaged in the 2008 election.”

I suppose it’s nice to have a gander at the wedding photos of prominent US presidential candidates. And props to Brides Decide for offering up their quick shot candidate profiles. But really now, I think brides can decide without having to follow some link they stumble upon during one of their frequent visits to the knot message boards. Am I right? Please tell me I’m right…

    I have no words.

I don’t know … could I vote for a guy who wore white shoes with a powder blue tux? Or a woman who slept in rollers for her wedding hair?

Why oh why oh why? Though I will admit that I did look at the wedding pictures out of morbid curiosity. Was it just me or was Kucinich’s wedding picture a tad creepy?

  4. Blake Says:

This is fascinating! There’s some odd identity thing going on here, like being a bride has moved from some kind of short-term vocation into Who You Are (”Caucasian, Hispanic, or BRIDE?” “Full-Time, Part-Time, Unemployed, Student, or BRIDE?”)

  5. beeble Says:

Yes, Kucinich’s is completely creepy. His wife is a total trophy wife. There weren’t as many pictures as I hoped to see.

  6. Twistie Says:

Kucinich’s photo is creepy, yes, but if you read the story it actually sounds sweet. I think Kucinich is just one of those guys who always looks kind of icky in photos. I love the fact that they sort of had this love at first sight thing and it’s worked out for them.

As to the site itself, now *that’s* what I find creepy and condescending and just plain annoying.

Boo on this as an idea.

    You are right!
