I’m proud to say that I’ve never dressed up as a slutty ____________ all through college. Halloween is about being scared and the only thing I can gather is, STDs are DAMN scary.

Sort of related — on my Bridezilla/Whose Wedding is it Anyway/Extreme Makeover marathon while my boyfriend is out of town and I own the remote, I saw a woman who wore a Supergirl costume instead of a wedding dress.

To her own wedding.

(I’m not sure where the bride who carried a bathroom scale with her to the restaurant fits into this, unless we are considering insane brides.)

Why do all women’s costumes come in the sexy/slutty version? You must have forgotten part of the Halloween lore of ancient Europe. On Samhain in the days of Yore all the maidens of the village would dress as naughty nurses, sexy brides, sexy school girls, slutty nuns, and french maids in order to intimidate the evil spirts with their sexiness thereby saving all the villagers. Of course if they dressed like this any other night the maidens would be promptly arrested/banished/stoned/burned (different villages different traditions).

I tend not to do licensed anything. Oddly enough, I never chose to go as a bride on Halloween – dead or otherwise – at any point in my trick or treating career. I did, however, when I was about eight go out as one of the professional bridesmaids from Gilbert and Sullivan’s Ruddigore.

My mother made me a long dress and a silk flower bouquet and headband, and I wore a big sandwich board with ‘Bridesmaid for Hire’ on the front and my rates on the back.
