Oh cupcake tree, oh cupcake tree, of all the sweets most lovely

Why am I already seeing Christmas stuff in shops? Last I checked, that stuff wasn’t supposed to come out of the warehouses until the day after the U.S.’s version of Thanksgiving. Apparently, store managers have now decided the Christmas stuff needs to be on the shelves sometime shortly after Canada’s Thanksgiving. Huh.

You’ll guests will wonder if Christmas has come early this year

The five tier cupcake tree looks suspiciously like a Christmas tree when festooned with 100 appropriately colored cupcakes. That, I suppose, is why I immediately thought about how much I loathe Christmas muzak as soon as I cast eyes on it. I don’t, however, hate cupcakes or cupcake stands, so bring ‘em on. In fact, I’m almost tempted to make a cupcake Christmas tree…but I’m not even going to think about it until December 1 as a protest against this year’s retail horrors.

See what the stand looks like au naturale under the break.

The bones of the thing look sad all uncovered

Ugly thing all uncovered, isn’t it? Utterly un-festive, really. If you’re looking for something to clothes the cupcake tree in, you could do worse than to order Crazy About Cupcakes or Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. Both books are absolutely scrumptious.

I feel your pain. Here in Houston, the decorations and foodstuffs go up a few days before Halloween. It’s as though they’re making a conscious effort to overcompensate for the fact that we don’t have any sort of Christmas weather here: “Two extra months of Christmas, even at 85 degrees and 90% humidity! If that doesn’t get you in the mood for the season, nothing will!”

Here in Austin, they seem to haul out the Christmas decorations and merchandise earlier and earlier each year. This year there were Christmas decorations in the mall on October 6th!! And they started decorating the downtown streets the week before Halloween. That is just so wrong.

I don’t mind the decorations as much as the MUSIC. Bleh. I used to love Christmas music many years ago. Then stores started playing it in October. No one wants to hear “Frosty the Snowman” before the leaves have even turned! I can ignore the decorations, but the music gets into your head. And it’s stupid, too, as I walk out of stores playing Christmas music too early, instead of staying and buying early presents.

We had a cupcake tower at our wedding. The tower itself was a pretty white wooden (?) thing, not cardboard like above. I had my mom make our wedding cake, but since the package with the hall came with a bakery cake, we had them make cupcakes. People seemed to like them.
