Maybe I Hit On a Trend After All

In a recent article here, I begged wedding gown designers to offer us something they haven’t in years: sleeves. I truly thought I was whistling in the wind and it would take a very long time to see any sort of action on this request.

Lo and behold, yesterday I went shopping in my local bookstore and paused before the magazine rack, only to see this looking back at me from the display:

In Style Weddings cover 1/08

Actual honest to goodness cap sleeves! Something covering the shoulders! A neckline that isn’t a straight line just above the nipples!

What’s more, there were articles on all the top trends in the latest gowns, and one of them was on ‘new’ necklines. Of the fifteen gowns I found featured online to cover this new trend, three of them had actual sleeves. Only one was completely strapless.

Okay, those sleeves may not be the best of the best…but they’re there. It’s a start. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and long-standing trends don’t change drastically overnight. The important thing to keep in mind is that if a few sleeves start filtering into bridal magazines and bridal salons, women will buy them and designers will start offering more variety on more gowns.

Ah, the sweet taste of victory! Let us celebrate the joy of sleeves!

I think the strapless craze is starting to dwindle down. It’s been here for a long time, so people are getting tired of it and are looking for new things.

Apparently, it’s all thanks to Katie Holmes. She is credited and responsible for bringing sleeves on wedding dresses back into vogue! I immediately searched for an image to prove this and shouted at the screen-that’s not a sleeve! A sleeve covers your arm or at least part of it. This was a delicate piece of something chiffony that fell over the very tops of her shoulders. A sort of cap sleeve-but not even. What rubbish-funny though!

cute sleeves, and dresses with bolero’s and shrugs have been predicted to be a huge hit this season:) Good news for brides who don’t like the strapless look which, lets be honest, has been really overdone recently.

Woohoo!!! They’ve figured out that there isn’t a whole lot of creativity available with strapless. Love the sweetheart neckline – the sleeves..well, to go from 0 to 5% on the arm coverage is a big deal. I could wish that my savings account would earn me so much.
Everyone– keep thinking “sleeve thoughts” – the cosmic energy will have its effect.
