I don’t actual believe in that little rhyme, Kat, and I don’t know anyone else who does, either. I was just messing around, as usual

I love yellow, though I haven’t yet found a dress I really like in yellow…with the exception of the dress Angelina Jolie wore last year in Cannes. That was one hot frock!

You know what? My wedding dress is mostly yellow with a bit of white. It’s a bright joyful yellow and I love it.

That little rhyme also writes off most other colours except blue and white from memory, no need to just pick on yellow. The rhyme’s also at least 100 years old… times have changed

I thought you were more modern than that.

I had to fight with my florist that I wanted bright yellow flowers. Not pastel yellow, bright, primary, sunshine yellow. He kept trying to convince me that I wanted something more *demure*. I wanted to drag him off to my closet and let him get a glimpse of the riot of color that is contained within. I am NOT a pastel person, and my bridesmaids would have been in bright yellow dresses except that I knew they would kill me. Instead I went with black dresses with yellow, pink and orange flowers embroidered on them, and then had the bouquets match.

I was ahead of my time–my wedding colors last year were yellow, navy blue and ivory. I do like the gunmetal though, it’s a nice combination with yellow. There’s an easy way around the problem of yellow dresses, which is what I did: have the bridesmaids in the second color, which in my case was navy, and the flowergirl in yellow. My flowergirl looked adorable in her yellow dress from Pegeen. She has long dark curls and wore a wreath of ivory roses.

And I really like that first set of Crane’s invites. My invitations were done by White Aisle, who did a fab job, using the butter colored paper that’s also sold by Paper Source. I recommend that paper highly if anyone is looking to create their own yellow invites or other wedding printing. (My invitations themselves were on heavy ivory stock, but they were tucked into butter pocketfolds and sent in butter envelopes.)

I adore yellow as an accent color, it just makes everything brighter and more cheerful! But I’m with NtB on yellow dresses. Yellow ribbons or yellow bouquets seem like a much safer bet in terms of finding flattering choices for one’s bridesmaids.
