Yes, I can definitely see where that could be disconcerting.

Twistie: Way before I went veg, I attended a pig roast in honor of my aunt's birthday. It was interesting (and tasty), but I wasn't all that keen on staring into the unseeing eyes of my evening repast!

Amusingly enough, the site where Mr. Twistie and I were married offered two options for catering: their barbeque or our own DIY picnic. No outside professional caterers allowed.

We chose to do our own picnic food in significant part because there was no vegetarian option on the house barbeque menu and we had at least seven or eight vegetarians coming to the wedding - including the MOH and her husband. Also, I must admit I was in no hurry to match my leaky lower lip with drippy barbeque sauce and a pure silk wedding gown with lace I'd spent a year making. It just seemed like a grade-A recipe for disaster.

I must say, though, I wouldn't mind going to a wedding where they held a pig roast reception. That sounds kind of fun. But to paraphrase my hero Abigail Adams, I would caution any couple to remember the vegetarians. Unless you're absolutely certain you have nothing but carnivores on your guest list, be sure to provide something filling and festive that can be eaten by someone who's avoiding meat.
