Just In Case You Show a Little Leg
Dismayed by all of the flimsy craft-store bridal garters out there on sites selling wedding favors? Yeah, us, too. If you’re like me and choose not to toss your garter, it can feel a little odd to devote a great deal of time or money to an bridal accessory that very few people will ever get to see. Still, even if your garter is your (and your new spouse’s) little secret, why not splurge on something special, like a handmade custom garter designed by Julianne Smith?

The best part? It’s not much of a splurge when you consider that all of Smith’s garters price in at less than $50.

Those are cute.
Me? I made my own garter, then tossed it merrily away. I figure if I ever want another, I’ve still got the pattern and the thread can be gotten easily enough. It didn’t take terribly long to make.
Why yes, I am a bit smug about it.
Do I need a garter? We aren’t tossing bouquets or garters, so I just assumed that I didn’t need one and promptly forgot about it.
KTB, you don’t have to have a garter at all. It’s a purely optional extra…particularly if you aren’t planning to hurl it at a crowd of single gentlemen, half of whom are probably cowering in fear lest they catch it.
Unless you feel like having one, put it out of your mind again and have pleasant dreams.
Twistie: A friend made mine (and beautifully, I might add) so I very deliberately did not suggest The Beard toss it. Not that we would have anyway, considering that we didn’t throw a bouquet either.
KTB: You don’t need one any more than you need a bouquet or a special bridal jewelry set or just about anything else other than a marriage license! I had one even though The Beard did not intend to toss it… just because I wanted one and a lovely friend of mine offered to sew it for me. I wore it, showed it off to certain guests, and now it lives in my keepsake box. Whether you wear a garter is totally up to you!
So after all of that, I forgot about a garter until the day before the wedding when my sister handed me a present to open and I discovered that she had made me a beautiful garter that perfectly matched my dress and sash. Needless to say, I wore it and it definitely didn’t get tossed!
That’s awesome, KT — what a cool surprise!
