Making Tracks

The lovely class-factotum sent me a link to this, er, interesting wedding cake:

off-roading-wedding-cake

While I understand that the truck is supposed to be off-roading its way up the side of the cake, the colors chosen to represent mud or a stream bed or whatever that’s supposed to be makes it seem as if the vehicle has spewed hot and dirty exhaust particles onto each tier as it made its way up toward the top. Soiled wedding cake? Trust me when I say that it’s never a good look.

Oh. I thought the truck had crashed and that was the victims’ blood going down the side of the cake. Briefly I thought that.

Why do people insist on making cakes that don’t look like things you would actually want to eat? ::sob::

Oh well. I’m sure the bride and groom probably loved it. (But did any of the guests eat the pieces cut out of the “muddy river rock” quadrant?)

Ugh! It looks like the SUV has farted out a ginormous hairball. Who could even THINK about eating a piece of that???

I was wondering if you actually do this cake with different wedding toppers? Because we are into off roading with our Nissan Xterra. If so could you please email me and let me know..
Keep up the great work we love this cake …..

    Thank you,
    Mary

Mary: Unfortunately we don’t do *any* cakes professionally here at Manolo for the Brides. We just write about them! A good baker should be able to replicate this cake for you, though. Good luck!

You guys are ridiculous for not finding this cake attractive. You guys probably couldn’t even make something so intricate. It’s a clever idea and irregardless of the dirt effects, it’s made of cake. DUH.

@Alex Something can be intricate and skillfully made without being particularly attractive. I do not doubt for a second that the baker has talent and, yes, it is a clever idea. That doesn’t change the fact that unless you get close up that cake looks like it was burned in a fire.

I was just woundering how much your mud truck wedding cake was for my daughters sweet 16 birthday party

I’ll tell you what I told Mary above, Linda: Unfortunately we don’t make cakes professionally here at Manolo for the Brides. We just write about them! A good baker should be able to replicate this cake for you, though. Good luck :)

I would totally eat a piece of that cake. I have a blazer that looks just like that truck on the cake. But… I wouldn’t have that as a cake at my wedding, well, maybe as a grooms cake.
