LOVE/HATE: The ‘Wood’ You DIY Edition

By Never teh Bride

Though I’m not the world’s biggest wedding cake topper fan, since most of them are kind of cliched, but I have to say that I have a soft spot in my heart for original cake toppers, a la yesterday’s robot wedding cake toppers. So when I came across this DIY wedding cake topper kit from Goose Grease, I was at first smitten. It is, after all, only $8!

But then I started asking myself whether the individual components would be even less expensive and how well the toppers would turn out if the painter was less than painterly.

The seller will whip some up for you for $40, but honestly, I think I could do almost as good a job. YMMV where that is concerned. All in all, I like (not love or hate) the DIY wedding cake topper idea, but I have to wonder about the execution when one is using the above kit.

What say you?

I’m not much of a fan of cake toppers, but I do think I could make a more interesting one out of eight dollars of different materials…and I could buy something a lot more interesting for forty smackers.

There’s a slight naive charm to the concept, but I’m far from sold on the likely results. At least the ones I would be likely to produce.

You could do it yourself much much cheaper and have better paints. You can get a nice size tube of acrylic for $1 and wood is really cheap.

I see this as more of a fun activity for a wedding shower.

This might be something fun for a wedding shower, as Toni said – or if all your family/friends are as competitive as some of mine are: you can have a contest at the rehearsal dinner/prewedding events….and the best one wins. And how adorable to have a display of all the creations at the reception.

Its everyone’s vision of you and your love in adorable wooden form. Aw. Now I wanna do this.

    So cute!
