The rhyme I learned goes something old something new, something borrowed something blue and a silver sixpence for your shoe.

I borrowed an old sixpence from my mom and tied it in my shoe with a blue ribbon. That took care of everything all at once.

I'm with Toni - some of the commenters sound ... unusually... enthusiastic... over an idea that leaps to fill a non-existent void. I don't find tattoos particularly déclassé, but I know there are quite a few people who would agree with class factotum. I know a couple of guys, at a minimum, who wouldn't find the women they love improved any by a tattoo. Heh. I actually think the idea of blue hair is pretty entertaining, but I would think most people who want tattoos either have them already, or will get a temporary tattoo for under a dollar.

I don't think very highly of I Do Tattoo's tactics: they're pretty openly sneering at the rest of us who managed to find "something blue" that didn't include them. It's not a great sales technique. I'm certain that some folks (I would be one of them) would encourage people to find almost any other option, as a result. (I made my wedding dress: it was a white velvet gown open in front over a white brocade petticoat; I lined the skirts of the open velvet gown with blue satin for my "something blue.")

I don't fancy anything blue myself so this one goes straight to the pile of cute but incredibly useless things they make to milk the bridal cow for its money. Seriously though, if I were to include something blue for the sake of blue into my wedding attire, I might think something as fake as a temporary tattoo would just feel stupid and not meaningful at all.

Anyway, I giggled out loud through the whole story, so thanks for writing it! ;D

I think it's a cute idea - but I would like it better if the I Do Tattoo folks didn't have to disparage everybody who finds a way to use blue without paying them.

Also, for those of you interested in something a little more personal, you can get inkjet printable temporary tattoo paper. I've used them when making costumes in the past and they come out really nice. http://www.mcgpaper.com/tattoos.html Just another option :-)

Not to cast aspersions on your commenters, but man... some of these replies sound like the company itself posting anonymously to talk up its product.

I went with blue underwear myself.

That said, this is a fun idea, but way overpriced when you can get temporary tattoos out of the gumball machine for $0.50.

[...] Silly and fun, temporary tattoos are the way to go. But I warn you, based on my recent personal experience with blue cupcakes that used too much blue food coloring, just be careful. It’s unnerving seeing things that are blue and green that shouldn’t be blue and green. [manolo brides] « Could I pass the Air Force physical fitness test?
I don't have a clue as to why it would be difficult to find something blue to wear. Blue stones in jewelry, a blue garter (I made my own out of my own handmade blue lace), blue ribbons, blue shoes, blue stockings (particularly appropriate for the intellectual bride), or even blue underwear are all quite easy to find. Framing artwork of your temporary tattoo? I find that just plain ridiculous. No power on earth would make me give my money to this company.

OTOH, done the way Amber or Bernadette did, well, that's terrific. Why add an extra 'something blue' when it's already inked on your body? Why pay the bucks for a temporary tattoo? But a tattoo - whether permanent or temporary - is a perfectly legit something blue if you're going to follow the old rhyme.

I'm with The Beard on this: it's silly and cute and utterly up to the taste and preference of the wearer.

How out of touch does it make me that the first thing I think of when I see a tattoo is "prison" and "low class?"

I love this idea. If I am going to marry, I would definitely include this blue I do tattoo.
