In Praise of Purple

Anyone who knows me knows I love purple. I even have purple carpet in my bedroom. True story. So yes, I’m happy with the current popularity of purple in weddings.

If you’re as in love with purple as I am, you might want to use a bit in planning your wedding. After all, there’s a lot you can do with it.

Flowers are an obvious place to start. Of course, there are a lot of different directions to go with it. You could choose something regal:

Happy Fourth of July from Twistie and NtB!

Patriotic Wedding Cake Have a slice of a Very Special Wedding Cake on us!

Oh, and feel free to treat this as a Twistie’s Saturday Caption Madness. I’ll declare a winner next saturday in addition to my usual article for the day. Why? Because I can wait to see what you come up with for this one.

And because of the fun. It’s all about the celebration of life, liberty, and the pursuit of superfantasticness.

Toilet Paper Has Never Looked This Good

Is it just me, or do the winning entries in the Cheap Chic Toilet Paper Wedding Dress contest get more elaborate and more amazing every year? Used to be that the wedding dresses looked like toilet paper. Now they just look more and more like wedding dresses!

This year’s winner is Ann Kagawa Lee of Honolulu, Hawaii with her wedding dress inspired by Gone With the Wind and origami. And of course she didn’t stop at weaving together an amazing gown that in my humble opinion is freakishly detailed… no, she also put together a matching hat.

As per the rules, the whole shebang was crafted using only toilet paper, tape, and glue. And I thought I was kind of crafty! The video below talks a bit about the contest, and displays some of the winning gowns in better detail. This year’s entries really are off the chain.

A Truly Super Groom

You have to love a groom who can banish General Zod from the reception!

I think you also have to love a bride and groom who have a sense of humor. As much as I love a good solemn wedding ceremony, I believe wholeheartedly that there is plenty of room for horseplay and general merriment at wedding receptions… and even in ceremonies. I cracked up during mine, for example, because I couldn’t read part of the wedding vows I’d so carefully written down. Oops! When I paused and squinted at my sheet of college ruled, you could hear guests shifting uncomfortably in their seats. But when I lost my you-know-what, everyone else had a good laugh, too. My advice to brides and grooms everywhere? Don’t be afraid to have fun!
