Orange: It’s Not Just for Halloween Anymore

My mother always said orange was her favorite neutral. If there’s one thing I learned at her knee, it was that her eye for color was impeccable. These days, orange is my favorite neutral, too.

Oh I know it’s a bright, aggressive color. I know a little can go a long way. I also know it goes with and brings out the best in a wide variety of colors. I also know it’s a wonderful color for a happy celebration like a wedding.

Not convinced? Take a look under the cut at the cheery gallery of orange wedding details I’ve put together. Please note that there is not a single one that looks like Halloween.

Orangelilies Flowers are an obvious place to start with any color, and orange is no exception. They can be dramatic, or they can be relaxed and sweetly old-fashioned.

Of course, the decoration at the wedding site itself is a great place to play with color.

Of course, my mother always said a good pair of orange shoes will carry you anywhere in style. Looking at these, I do believe she was right. Just imagine them peeping out from under your wedding gown, and see if you don’t agree with good old mom.

Orange is a lovely colour, and is in fact one of the favorites of Erin McKean of A Dress A Day. Enough of my wardrobe is black to render orange a colour I need to use judiciously, but even in my wardrobe, it makes its appearance!

I love orange, I thought about using it for the wedding but decided it was a bit too out there. But I did register for and receive a gorgeous tangerine Kitchenaid mixer as a wedding gift!

While these look lovely and would look great on my Latino groom’s side of the family, I and my blonde and red-headed family would look ridiculous. Orange is not a color everyone can pull off.

I love the photos. My favorites were the first photo with the lovely bouquet as well as the third photo – the wedding invitation. I loved those photos for opposite reasons.

I thought the flowers were so bright and lively, they provide such a nice contrast against the wedding gown.

However I thought the wedding invitation is elegant with the touch of color that is provided. Very nice indeed.
