LOVE/HATE: The ‘There Are No Words’ Edition
A part of me wants to love this Atelier Aimee wedding dress so much. Excepting the hat and the earrings that look like upside down feather dusters, that is. But the big fake roses? The ribbon that looks like it came from the CVS gift wrap aisle? And the asymmetrical fur… thingy?

Something has to go, and I think it’s the thingy. What is it, anyway? A fur seatbelt? Maybe it’s everything above the waist that isn’t the bodice that has to go, since I can deal with the roses on the skirt (even if they do look kind of droopy). As it stands now, I’m saying HATE.
What say you?

The contrast boning, the dead flowers, the icksome shade of pink – and I love pink, but that is bilious – the weird sparkly lace counterpane whatsit, and -is that a train in her hand? Or is the whole compost heap about to unravel? Get rid of that lot, and we can talk.
The thingy doubles as a strap to keep the dress on her emaciated body and to keep her warm.
I say this one makes me break out in hives.
Also? That shade of pink is pretty close to the first bridesmaid’s dress I ever had to wear. To this day it’s the only one I really had to grit my teeth over.
Hmmm. I’d do some discreet tacking on the roses; poor things, they look so discouraged. Then I’d use the fur seatbelt as trim on a nice little shoulder wrap to go with the dress, and I’d knock one end out of that teeny fur toque, and turn it into a teeny-but-more-useful muff. I’m not too enamoured of those … what? Glass pomegranates? in her ears; I think the earrings are too long, something. Possibly something better suited to being Christmas ornaments. Or decorations on the fur toque-muff!
I don’t know; it seems as if there’s such potential in the dress – as yet unrealized.
I’m squarely with La Bella Donna on this one — it’s a whole raft of little errors adding up to a glaring Oh Honey No total.
The hairstyle looks fuzzy and frizzy under that timid fur toque.
The toque is timid — with hats like that go bold or don’t go there at all.
So is the thingy. Far too timid.
The earrings are far too long — they are adorning her shoulders while leaving it looking like she not actually wearing any earrings –cover her from just below the chin down and it looks like there are no earrings at all.
The roses are soft and droopy *and* in a dusty color — that makes them look old and tired, like something dug out of Greatgramma’s attic.
The drapery looks random, like someone just gathered handsful of it and tacked it down here and there. And why does it stop six inches above the tulle of the bottom of the skirt?
Rabrab, THANK YOU! It just, it just looks so much to me as if it’s still in the “Here, try this … while I pin it on… Can you hold that rose RIGHT THERE, just like that, for a minute? Where’s the rose lace? We DON’T? Okay, is there any tulle left, because I really need, like, a LOT of it?”
I actually love it. I think, the pink shoulder “THingY’ adds a little shabby chic edge to the look, otherwise it’s just be a plain corsetted gown. Maybe I’m biased because I love Atelier Aimee so much, and all the high drams in their collection. Either way, great topic.
