If I Could….

It’s time to play a game, my friends. It’s a game about dreams. After all, a little dreaming is a wonderful thing. So I’m going to ask you a few questions about your ultimate wedding desires. There are no right or wrong answers. This is about what you would love if budget, time, and pretty much every other practicality didn’t need to be considered. This is about what you would do if you didn’t have to think about your mother-in-law’s feelings, your MOH’s allergies, how much money you have in the bank, or your DIY disasters past.

Just fill in the blanks with whatever flight of fancy appeals to you.

If I could get married anywhere in the world, I would choose ____
If I could wear anything I want to get married in, I would choose____
If I could have any sort of music I like at my wedding, I would choose____
If I could have any kind of decoration I want at my wedding, I would choose ____
If I could serve any sort of meal I like at my reception, I would choose ____
If I could have/do one special thing on my wedding day, I would choose ____
If I could go anywhere in the world for my honeymoon, I would choose ____

So what would you choose?

If I could get married anywhere in the world, I would choose to get married on a sailboat in Key West.
If I could wear anything I want to get married in, I would choose a short, sleek dress in white or silver, or light blue.
If I could have any sort of music I like at my wedding, I would choose a string quartet.
If I could have any kind of decoration I want at my wedding, I would choose the inherent beauty of a great setting- probably somewhere outside, on a day that was guaranteed to be beautiful.
If I could serve any sort of meal I like at my reception, I would choose charcuterie, pate, cheese, champagne, fresh fruit, and gelato.
If I could have/do one special thing on my wedding day, I would choose to marry my wonderful fiance- that’s special enough for me.
If I could go anywhere in the world for my honeymoon, I would choose a tour of Europe, lasting several months.

If I could get married anywhere in the world, I would choose the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in NYC. Small ceremony in the little Asian garden, reception in the room with the Egyptian temple. There’s just something about those places…
If I could wear anything I want to get married in, I would choose something a lot closer to the original dress I wanted. High back, low scoop front, lots of boning in the bodice for structure… and a simple, floor-length skirt. Probably in off-white, but I’d really like blue detailing.
If I could have any sort of music I like at my wedding, I would choose to have someone play. For the ceremony, Anthony Mazzella would have to play. He’s amazing, and we adore him. For the reception, I’m not sure if I’d go offbeat, like Dweezil Zappa or Thomas Dolby, or a *little* more mainstream, like Barenaked Ladies. But in either case, I’d like to have our friends come up and play with them.
If I could have any kind of decoration I want at my wedding, I would choose light. Lots and lots of soft light. Candles, lanterns…
If I could serve any sort of meal I like at my reception, I would choose just appetizers and desserts. Exotic cheeses, fruits, breads, chocolates, meat… food prepared simply, eaten simply. Petit fours, fruit tartlets, and cookies or brownies instead of cake.
If I could have/do one special thing on my wedding day, I would choose to have everyone we love be there with us. Ideally, we’d even be able to have his grandparents and my great-grandmothers, all of whom died before we got married. But if we’re bringing people back from the dead, I’d have Roy Orbison and/or the Beatles play my reception. So, you know…
If I could go anywhere in the world for my honeymoon, I would choose to travel through Australia and New Zealand, cruise to Antarctica, and maybe come back through South America. I want to meet penguins!

If I could get married anywhere in the world, I would choose the Pont Alexandre in Paris at dusk.
If I could wear anything I want to get married in, I would choose a short-sleeved version of Grace Kelly’s wedding dress, in the most thick, luxurious champagne satin and fine lace ever to exist.
If I could have any sort of music I like at my wedding, I would choose a live appearance by Yo-Yo Ma.
If I could have any kind of decoration I want at my wedding, I would choose candles and cream-coloured roses — thousands and thousands of them.
If I could serve any sort of meal I like at my reception, I would choose the eight-course tasting menu from Babbo.
If I could have/do one special thing on my wedding day, I would choose to have the bells at Notre Dame ringing and fireworks going off as soon as my groom kisses me.
If I could go anywhere in the world for my honeymoon, I would choose — I’d just stay in Paris, thank you very much.

    I love this game!

If I could get married anywhere in the world, I would choose the unfinished church in St George’s Bermuda.
If I could wear anything I want to get married in, I’d choose Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” dress. (I’ll need the shoulders to go with it, though.)
If I could have any sort of music I’d like at my wedding, I’d choose a string quartet for the ceremony, Diana Krall for dinner and an amazing DJ for dancing.
If I could have any kind of decoration, I’d choose the gorgeous plants in Bermuda.
If I could have any sort of meal at the reception, I’d choose the homey deliciousness of the cassoulet my grandfather used to make. And instead of cake, a giant croquembouche. And rum swizzles!
If I could have/do one special thing on my wedding day, well… I think getting married would be good enough.
If I could go anywhere in the world for my honeymoon, I would go everywhere. Well, everywhere that strikes my fancy.
