The Limited Wedding Collection – Limited In Scope, But Also In Price

When a bunch of you sweethearts emailed to tell me that The Limited would be releasing a collection of wedding dresses and bridesmaids’ dresses on June 3, I thought I’d just wait to see what it looked like before rah-rahing. As you can no doubt guess by looking at the date, I wasn’t enthralled enough with what was released to toss up a post to sing its praises. NOT, I should say, that the dresses aren’t pretty, because they are.

I love the little belt on this soft ivory silk gown with its pleats and pockets, and the one below isn’t so bad either… though I’d definitely lose the blah too-small belty sash thing. It is just plain underwhelming.

But even if these aren’t my favorite wedding dresses in the world, the price is certainly right at a mere $298 each. The main problem, as I see it, is the very *ahem* limited scope of the collection, if you can call two wedding gowns and four bridesmaids’ dresses (priced at a sweet $89.50 each) a collection.

It seems like there was quite a bit of hype for six dresses! That said, I do hope there are more to come, and that The Limited keeps its wedding gowns around instead of making the whole thing a limited time offer a la the Target wedding dresses. For now, more and more mainstream retailers are jumping on the wedding dress bandwagon, and I think that’s keen. Anthropologie is apparently next – I’m kind of looking forward to it. According to StyleCaster:

The bridal division, which will debut online in Spring 2011, will be its own independent brand. It’s slated to be developed by the design team behind the Anthropologie label. In addition, bridal will adopt a similar aesthetic to the highly recognizable Anthropologie look. Wedding gowns, which will retail in the $1,000 to $5,000 range, will be available, alongside bridesmaids dresses, fine jewelry, shoes, fresh flowers, and invitations.

These dresses look so comfortable and yet classic cuts make them timeless.

I’m guessing they’re testing the market before investing too much. They really are pretty dresses, and it seems like they’re a solid quality for the price.

(I just realized that I also tipped you off to the Target collection. I think I shop too much.)
