Of Love and Flowers

What bridal accessory is currently making my heart go pitter-patter? Hint: It’s not just one thing! I’m liking just about everything at EmersonMade, home of hand-dyed and hand-stitched blooms (perfect for updos and belts) and bridal accessories. There are also adorable boutonnieres for the groom and groomsmen, itty-bitty flower favors, bridal bouquets, ring pillows (a great Something Blue), corsages, and garlands!

Twistie’s Sunday Caption Madness: The Bride of Henry VIII Edition

You all know how this works. I post a picture that’s simply crying out for a caption. You provide said captions via the comments function. Next saturday, I declare a winner and we laud said winner joyfully.

This week’s picture doesn’t really come from the bride of Henry VIII file. That would look like this. Also, contrary to popular myth, he only had two of those wives executed, though both of them were beheaded. Interestingly enough, they were cousins, as well. Why yes, I always have been a history geek. Why do you ask?

Anyway.

This week’s picture does come to you from the… fascinating file, as Mr. Spock would probably call it. It looks a little bit like this:

Ready… set… snark!

How Low Can They Go?

Wedding reality shows, that is.

Last night I was watching an episode of Battle of the Wedding Designers over on TLC. For those of you lucky enough to be unfamiliar, this is a show where a couple gives an idea of how much money they have, how many guests they expect, and their general preferences for a wedding. Three wedding planners are then given said budget, size, and taste restraints. Each planner comes up with a plan for how to spend that money and presents said plan to the couple. The couple then pick one planner’s dream and hand over the bucks. The audience gets to see how it all turns out.

Fair enough.

Last night’s couple, Xenia and Ezra, had a serious budget crunch. Xenia lost her job right after Ezra proposed and hasn’t been able to find another yet. They’d managed to scrape up $5,000 and hoped to have a tropical themed wedding with 75 guests.

LOVE/HATE: The ‘Swirly Whirly’ Edition

You do not need a windy day or a signature twirl to feel flouncy in Suzanne Ermann‘s playful and rather perky dresses. Whether you’re a bridesmaid or a wedding guest, your dress can do the twirling for you.

See what I mean?

Now while I adore Suzanne Ermann’s wedding dresses, I’m torn on these. On one hand, I’m wondering how they’d hold up during a wedding ceremony and reception. Would I squish them while sitting? Snag them on something? On the other hand, they look so delightfully like something you’d see on a guest at a fancy wedding in the UK or France that I’d definitely jump at the chance to own one just so I could wear it to the next wedding I’m invited to. I guess I’d say “love with reservations.”

What say you?

NtB Loves: Your Fairy Tale Wedding

My new favorite wedding dress source? Right now it’s Your Fairy Tale Wedding, a one-woman show out of Tennessee. The creatrix – who states that, among other things, she’s a photog, mom, artist, wife, and all around Renaissance woman – offers a menu of custom wedding dresses, her own designs, and gowns inspired by designer frocks (but not, as she stresses, copies). Here’s a sample set:

The best part is that the prices for all these pretty dresses hover around $600 to $800, which is quite a deal in the wide world of wedding dresses. It also doesn’t hurt that Your Fairy Tale Wedding offers eco-friendly, fair trade, and low impact fabric options like organic cotton sateen and recycled textiles.

My fave? Definitely the Rochelle, a vintage-inspired colored wedding dress made of satin with an organza and tulle overlay and hand cut flowers:

Can I go back in time and get married in this dress? Pretty please?

Inspiration: Glamelia!

For a decidedly different bridal bouquet, it’s all in how you use your blooms. Special breeds of flower or bouquet charms aren’t necessary when you’re carrying a glamorous glamelia bouquet, which is a composite bouquet made hundreds of individual petals sewn together to form an amazing larger-than-life blossom.

Also known as a Malmaison rose, glamelias were popular in the 40s and 50s and are commonly made from rose petals but may be crafted from the petals of gladiolas, lilies, or other flowers.
