LOVE/HATE: The ‘Ackbasswards’ Edition

I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone outside of the realm of busybody biddies who has a problem with colored wedding dresses, but I’m loathe to believe that they’re overtaking white wedding dresses in terms of popularity. When, after all, was the last time you attended a wedding where the bride wore purple and the bridesmaids were in white (like in this pretty picture from Simply Bloom Photography)? But frankly, I LOVE the idea. Why not take the usual wedding color template and mix it up a little? It’s not like anyone at the wedding will have trouble identifying the bride!

Would you consider wearing a colored gown and dressing your bridesmaids in white?

First up, just love this post title… fabulous! I would and did think seriously of doing just this, and was halfway there. That is, my own dress was an evening gown in a bronzed sky blue colour (not easy to describe, I find!) and I thought about white for my two bridesmaids to make a bit of a statement. When we went shopping for them, though, we quickly found some indigo dresses that looked great, so it felt a little churlish to hold out for white for the hell of it. They had white bouquets, though. I live the idea, and hope to see more of it.

Heck yes, I’m already planning on doing this! I’m going to be in red and my bridemaids/man of honor will be in white (or maybe just a light, light gray for him.) I personally look god awful in white, but the ladies who will be standing with me look fabulous in it, so it’s really a no brainer.

I love this idea! Am I ballsy enough to do it? Depends on the kind of wedding we decide on. If we go with the big family-and-friends wedding in our hometown, I would probably go with traditional white and keep my bridesmaids in short and white. If we go for the destination wedding with a smaller group of family, I would SO DO THIS!

I also don’t look too fantastic in white (I earned the nickname casper as a kid) so I have always seen myself in something with a little bit of color.

The colored dress I like but the bridesmaids in white seems over the top and all about making a statement instead of being attractively coordinated.

Although I love the idea of having a colorful dress at my wedding, I like the classic white better.

I did this a few years ago, and loved it, but it only worked because I was paying for all of the bridesmaid dresses- the girls kind of resented having to wear a dress that would be so difficult to use again!
