Costco Shopping List: Toilet Paper, Batteries… Wedding Dresses?
Who isn’t selling wedding dresses these days? That’s what I want to know. Because apparently Costco, makers of fine coffins, Kirkland Signature Vodka, and massage oil by the gallon, has teamed up with bridal designer Kirstie Kelly to sell six exclusive wedding dresses.

The small line ranges from $700 to $1,400, which isn’t particularly expensive for a wedding dress, but not particularly cheap, either.
My hope? That the Kirstie Kelly wedding dresses for Costo come in huge boxes of eight. You know, for the under-represented polygamist and Liz Taylor impersonator demographics.

You know, I heard about this. I don’t think it’s such a bad idea. Honestly, if you didn’t know it was from Costco, would you guess (on some of these dresses)?
It sounds hilarious — “I got my dress at Costco!” — but you know, at one time, “I got my dress on ebay!” sounded silly/cheap.
Anyway, just wanted to put in my $.02. I have been hearing about this all over the internet! It’s loads of publicity for Costco, anyway!

I have to say I’ve seen more exciting designs at lower price points. J Crew has gowns that start under $500 and are more interesting designs. Also, with a line of just six styles, I don’t think the Costco line has enough to tempt a very wide range of brides.
I’m not wildly against the concept, but I am not impressed with the execution so far. If they come up with more innovative designs and better prices, then they might give it a go. We’ll see.
@ Melanie Oh, absolutely. I think if the gowns appeal to a bride, why not? And it makes for a funny story, too!
@Twistie They really are incredibly pedestrian, but it’s not like Costco makes a huge effort to make what it sells exciting. And there’s the Kirstie Kelly name attached, which some people might find alluring – particularly since they’re less expensive than her non-Costco designs. Even if they don’t expand the line, the name association may be enough to get people in the store.
