Twistie’s Sunday Caption Madness: The I’ve Got Something In My Shoe Edition: The Result

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

Ah my dears.

Last week I insulted your eyes with this image:
and two of you took up the challenge, delivering hilarious captions for a supremely silly picture.

In the end, though, there can be but one winner. This time that winner is the always fabulous perletwo for this luscious mouthful:

I know I said I wanted a fairy tale wedding, but really, this is just too much!

Congratulations, perletwo! And thanks to everyone for playing!

LOVE/HATE: The Candy Dots Edition

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

First cookies on your wedding cake, and now candy?! Today’s edition of LOVE/HATE is dedicated to my super fab friend Erin who was the only person I knew growing up who was seriously into candy buttons, aka candy dots. I would never have thought up a candy button wedding cake, but seriously, I don’t think you could ever go wrong with one!

Sweets on your sweets? Count me in!

Gotta love those classic candy dots!

Can you tell I LOVE LOVE LOVE the candy dots wedding cake? If you are a big fan of classic candy, it’s definitely an easy way for your cake designer to incorporate that into your wedding theme.

What’s your favorite candy – would you ever put it on your wedding cake?

Mother of the Brides Dresses by Category

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Oh, pity the poor mother of the bride, whose frock choices are often so bleh. Mother of the bride dresses seem to come in only a few categories, from beaded and boxy to overly sexy to the old school polyester pantsuit. That is, if you go looking specifically for mother of the bride dresses – as opposed to just ‘dresses’, which you may be surprised to learn are fine wedding wear for the MOB or MOG who wants to look her best. Really, does anyone at all look good in those square-cut un-tailored jackets with all the sparkles? Or, hello, shoulder pads? (And why do so many of them come in white…)

Exhibit C

The easiest way to avoid falling into the mother of the bride dresses pit of despair is to go shopping at stores that carry frocks that don’t carry the words ‘mother of the bride’ anywhere on their labels. Because while you may be the mother of the bride and you do plan on wearing a dress, I highly recommend steering clear of mother of the bride dresses in general.

Inspiration: Cute as a Button!

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Remember those beautiful button favor boxes and button place card holders I featured, oh, a long while back? If you don’t, maybe you remember Princess Lasertron’s amaaaaazing button bouquet. There’s a reason people say things like ‘cute as a button’ – buttons can be seriously cute, and are just one of those things that can be effortlessly incorporated into a DIY wedding theme. Observe:

Be You In Your Wedding Photos, No Matter What

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

Moments like these make the wedding

There is something just so awesome about the above image of a bride getting ready before her wedding. Personally, what I love about it is that it’s not the usual shot of the bride-to-be gazing at herself in the mirror, maybe a little tearfully, while her stylist does her hair or her mother helps her do the clasp on her necklace. (Speaking of those, do you know how many of those shots I’ve staged for friends’ photos? Lots. And to my eye, they all came out looking staged. Seriously.) The bride in the above photo? She looks FUN. And she looks like she’s the kind of chick who probably really enjoyed her own wedding reception instead of spending the whole time trying to be a perfect hostess.

I guess it could just be me, but the wedding photos that I actually like to look at are the ones in which brides and grooms look not like catalog models, but like themselves. Too bad that wedding photos that give you a glimpse of a couple’s personality seem like the exception, not the rule. Instead, you get albums full of stiff posed wedding photos, of brides and grooms mugging for the camera, uncomfortable looking fake smiles, etc. Part of the problem is that most brides and grooms are not celebrities, so aren’t used to having multiple cameras pointed in their direction, snapping away. You see someone about to take a photo… and freeze. Do you smile just so? Turn away? Get ready for it and suck in your gut?

Wedding Inspiration: Silhouettes!

Monday, April 18th, 2011

I love love love silhouettes, and being a custom item much of the time, silhouettes really look beautiful on everything from wedding invitations to wedding cake toppers. There are even DIY silhouette kits, so if you’re feeling brave and want to make, for example, silhouette wedding favor tags for your favors, there’s nothing stopping you.

Of course, there’s also nothing stopping you from finding vintage silhouettes and using those in your wedding decor. After all, who says the framed silhouettes on your reception tables or on your place cards actually have to be you? And you don’t have to necessarily go tradition, either. There are some really cool artists out there creating totally modern takes on the classic silhouette for brides and grooms!

Here’s some wedding silhouette inspiration from me to you for what may just be a dreary Monday full of blahs (for both of us):

Okay, the Tie-Ins Have Officially Gone Too Far

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

Seriously. This exists.

Papa John’s UK division is actually selling Prince William and Kate Middleton wedding pizzas featuring a portrait of the happy couple in cheese, mushrooms, olives, pepperoni, and other assorted toppings, according to The Sun.

I don’t know about you, but that just isn’t the most appetizing thing I’ve ever seen… and not just because I detest mushrooms, either!
