Quickie Question: Advice for New Brides?

When you start planning your wedding, there’s a lot to think about. In fact, there are things to think about that you may not realize need to be considered.

But those of us who have been there in the trenches and come out the other side have invaluable information and advice to give the newbies who don’t even know what they don’t know yet. So I thought I would ask all of you out there to give the best single piece of wedding planning advice you can think of.

Here’s mine: think about comfort. If you think about what will keep you, your bridal party, and your guests comfortable – both physically and emotionally – all through the event, you can’t go wrong. So consider that when deciding heel heights, venues, menus, the sound system and what goes in the vows. If you do that, you can’t go too far wrong.

What about all of you out there in Bridal Land? What’s your best piece of wedding planning advice?

Mine would be: RELAX! Followed closely by EAT! …I didn’t do enough of either of those things at my wedding and it’s my biggest regret.

Enjoy every second!! Take a moment in the day to sit back & look at everyone enjoying themselves & think “I’m going to remember this moment forever” x

SOMETHING will go wrong. Maybe many things. Do your absolute best not to stress, maybe even laugh a bit, and go on to enjoy your day. Very, very little could happen to actually ruin the entire day unless you let it.

When the day arrives and everything has been set in motion…let go of control. Unless it’s something major that cannot be fixed, like a major illness, nobody is sweating the details but you. Did the tuxedo shop give your father the wrong color cummerbund?* Let it go. Did the tuxedo shop give one of the groomsmen the wrong size jacket so he had to have them give him a slightly different style from the rest of the men?** Let it go. Did it rain on the day that you planned your outdoor wedding?*** Have your people set your backup plan in motion, and then let it go. The most important thing is that you are married at the end of it.

    *Yes, this happened to me.
    **And this.
    ***Of course, this too.
