Since I’m always a little curious about what other people are doing and I love flash, I wanted to show you Elton John’s and his new hubby’s Chopard wedding bands. The unusual (and costly!) rings were designed by a long-time friend who also happens to be co-president of the haute jeweler. The rings are set with a grid of emerald cut diamonds and feature each husband’s name spelled out in yet even more diamonds on the inner surface.
I say, “Snazzy!”….if you’re Elton, of course.
I say, “No thanks!” Too gaudy….(but then again, this *is* Sir Elton we’re talking about)
I have just spent the better part of a half an hour looking at the Chopard site and the only thing that caught my eye was the cute little open heart ring with a single diamond…maybe it caught my eye because I saw a cheaper version at Claire’s while I was shopping for costume jewelery for my little sister….
In any case, I can’t help but wonder if the diamonds on the inside of the band would irritate the finger…what happens to the quality of the stones over time after being exposed to the skin (and hand lotion, I’m sure!)
Well, JayKay, I certainly wouldn’t wear one myself. But for a flashy guy like Elton…I’d be disappointed with anything less 🙂
I was thinking the same thing about the diamonds inside. Perhaps they are inset?
Sir Elton is a man of rare taste.
I guess it wouldn’t do to have a wedding ring that is less flashy than your glasses (sun or otherwise.)
The quality of the stones wouldn’t really suffer… they’re diamonds, you can clean off anything that gunks over them. But it really doesn’t show the diamonds to any advantage, there’s no light for them to sparkle in.
As for the rings as a whole… well for EJ they’re *perfect* but I can’t imagine anyone else who would be able to pull them off.
My mom and dad think the best wedding present they gave themselfs was me. My parents got married Oct of 04 and they wanted to start a family right away and I now I rule the house.

Was Elton born in a trailer park? Do they have trailer parks in the UK? Ever notice how man wealthy people have gaudy taste. Is it a prerequisite for being a wealthy entertainer?
I hear you loud and clear, shoelover! Look at the Hiltons….grooooossssss!
As others have said before, there’s no way in hell I’d have something like that, but one look was enough to tell me they’re perfect for Elton John and the man who loves him, insane Donald Duck costume and all. To each their own!
Diamonds are the hardest mineral in the world JayKay and wouldn’t be botherred by your finger, nor would your finger bother them as jj says. They do attract dirt and junk though which is why you should clean them once a week. And NtB, yes they would be inset flush into the band probably hammerset, which allowing for stone depth would place the ring at least 2.5mm off the fingerline. Which would be so ridiculous.
My sister always thought a Neverending Band would be nice (diamonds shoulder to shoulder all the way around) but then we pointed out to her that everything she gripped-like a water glass, would get scratched by the diamonds.
I am very much into “the ring” research and design. I have spent nearly 10 years in the business learning “all there is to know” (here’s a hint: there is always more to know!) about diamonds, precious and semi precious gems and jewelry in general. I must say that never in those 10 years have I seen someone inset diamonds on the inside of a band. I think it is the ultimate concept of subtle luxury. I only wish the happy couple had opted for plain gem-free exterior, wide Platinum or Titanium bands and left the diamonds on the interior to the imagination. It would be so deliciously mysterious. But I guess that would not be “Elton enough!” 🙂
