MftB Gets Political…Sort Of

I’m feeling a little political today, but it turns out that tying weddings and U.S. politics together isn’t easy. Sure, pregnant Bristol Palin is engaged to a self-described redneck, but like they say on the Internet, pics or it didn’t happen. And there are no pics yet, because it hasn’t happened. Nuts. I did find pictures of both the Obama wedding and McCain’s wedding (to Cindy, Not Carol).

The deets: Michelle and Barack’s wedding ceremony was performed by the now infamous Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois on October 18, 1992.

The deets: On May 17, 1980, John and Cindy tied the knot in a formal ceremony that took place in Phoenix, Arizona.

In place of any veep pick wedding-day snapshots, here’s a news bit I came across when poking around for candidate info:

Sandwiched between racks of cotton pants and surrounded by ”Back-to-School Specials” signs, Jake McCowan and Rosalyn Ryan exchanged vows last week at the place where they met, work and fell in love: the Wasilla Wal-Mart. A crowd of 200, including passengers from a tour bus and several dozen curious shoppers, watched the two employees tie the knot in an afternoon ceremony officiated by Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin. ”It was so sweet,” said Palin, who fought back tears during the nuptials. “It was so Wasilla.” [Anchorage Daily News (Alaska), 8/28/99]

Of course, none of this has anything to do with politics in any real sense, but I do think its fun to have a lighthearted peek into the candidates’ past lives. It’s a nice way to take a break from all the mudslinging, pontificating, and snooze-worthy speechifying.

    Amen Sister!

John and Cindy look so different now- and Barack and Michelle look just the same! Funny.

  3. It makes sense, MissPinkKate, if you consider that the Obamas married in 1992 while the McCains were married in 1980 (when he was already 44 years old)!

I think I could have dated both wedding photos simply by looking at the brides. Both of them are in the height of bridal fashion of the days. Luckily for them, each one married at a time when bridal fashion was something they could pull off gracefully.

And may I just say I envy Michelle’s shoulders? Because I totally do.
