As you probably already know, I’m a huge fan of Bluefly for bridesmaids’ dresses and even wedding gowns. Shopping there makes so much sense to me — for what you pay, you get a beautiful dress with a good name attached and oftentimes pay less than you would at the bridal salon. Yay!

At some point in the not-too-distant past, Bluefly opened the Wedding 2.0 section of its web site. While I hate the whole ‘2.0’ thing, I like the way you navigate it. First, you indicate whether you’re attending the wedding or in the wedding party, then you either choose what sort of wedding it is or your role in the wedding party. Finally, Wedding 2.0 presents you with a number of options. It’s not perfect, natch. I pretended to be a size 12 bridesmaid looking for a yellow dress and got two results. Slimming down didn’t help, either. And if you’re larger than a size 14, you’re out of luck all over the map, apparently.
All the same, it makes it a teeny bit easier to shop on Bluefly for wedding-wear. Not enough to get excited about, but that’s not going to stop me from featuring some lovely wedding-ready dresses and gowns later this week. Of course, I’d also love to hear about your favorite online shops that carry wedding appropriate gear for guests and members of the wedding party. Have at it in the comments!
I’m in love with Unique Vintage. They have real vintage pieces, vintage reproductions, and vintage inspired pieces for all sorts of occasions, from weddings to the beach. Their customer service is fantastic, and their prices are very reasonable.
I’ve also recently been introduced to Whirling Turban, and desperately wish I had the cash for a custom fitted dress from them.
P.S. I’m a swing dancer.
I’d love to hear about somewhere to order a wedding outfit. I have to go to a wedding next month, and I haven’t lost enough baby weight yet to fit back into my old clothes. So I need something to wear that doesn’t cost too much, as I’m probably never going to wear it again, but is flattering to a very tall plus-size. (I’m not sure what size I am right now, either.) It’s an evening country-club wedding, not too formal if the invitations are anything to go by.
Toni–Whirling Turban is fab. I almost bought a dress from them for my honeymoon, but they didn’t have any fabric that I particularly liked at the time (apparently their stock was very low at that time) and my weight was off from my usual, so I decided to wait and buy a dress from them when I could get something I truly loved and could wear for years. But they were great, I probably was an incredibly annoying non-customer, but they were very patient and helpful. And the nice thing about Whirling Turban is once they fit a dress for you, they keep the muslin and you can order other dresses later on for less money.
I’m loving the dresses and Unique Vintage, and the ones I like are all very reasonable. Thanks for the link!
