The talented owner of Doloris Petunia’s Everything Lovely, maker of amazing chunky necklaces and sweet custom wedding accessories, recently posted this fascinating necklace. I immediately thought “bride.” Perhaps it’s just that a lot of ladies don’t have the courage to wear something so in-your-face except on their wedding days? Not that they shouldn’t wear an ostentatious necklace every day if they want to. I’m wearing a tiara right now! But many, many do not.

The $90 Floating Statement Necklace, as she calls it, can be customized to the bride’s specs, whether she wants a particular netting color, pattern of gems, gem quality or color, or the overall size. According to the description, the necklace floats around one’s neckline, making me think it would look quite fetching with a simple sheath wedding dress or even a more elaborate gown, provided Doloris Petunia can do a bit of crafty matching so there’s no jarring disconnect between the embellishments on your frock and your necklace.
I’ll cast my vote for love, assuming one could get fairly invisible netting so that the gems really do appear to float. I eagerly await the day the creatrix posts a pic with the necklace on a model. Preferably a bridal model, naturally. What say you?

I don’t know. To me it just looks like bunch of rhinestones from the craft store glued onto a scrap of netting. I would have to reserve my final judgment until I saw it on a model.
For $90, I would expect something better than petticoat netting and glued-on rhinestones. That netting would be super super itchy, too.
Maybe on someone of a certain stature, but not for me.
I’m going to go with “hate” for this one.
Tacky. If you gotta wear something fake, wear fake pearls. Or fake flowers. Not this. Never, never this, but especially never this on your wedding day.
It’s beautiful, and I think it will go well with a wedding dress.
looks a little heavy, Nice image though
I keep going back and forth on this one. It’s definitely far from my personal style, and as Becky pointed out that netting could get darn uncomfortable over the course of an evening. OTOH, while it’s heavy and glitzy and the netting makes me itch just looking at it on my computer monitor, I think it could also be spectacular on just the right lady wearing just the right gown.
Put me down as a definite maybe. With reservations.
There’s a difference between tulle and netting, and they’re not both scratchy.
I think it’s a great necklace for the right bride and the right gown.
I’m with Kai Jones: it’s a great necklace for the right wearer and the right gown. I replaced “bride” with “wearer”, since I’d like one … or two… or more! for myself, and I’m not getting married any time soon. I think I might be a little more inclined to a flesh-coloured illusion/power net for a foundation; it’s the material which keeps dancers from popping out of their costumes on stage when they’re skimpily dressed for dance competitions. I think it’s absolutely possible to mount those stones on a non-scratchy base.
Loved reading these comments and wanted to answer a few questions- the back of the piece is lined in silk ( hand cut for each stone) so that no stone backing touches your skin- hense taking away any itchy feeling.
I’ll post image on a model- thank you so much for your comments. Mention this blog when ordering anything from doloris petunia and get free shipping.
