Pretty, Perfect Picnic Weddings

Ever since I was planning my own nuptials back in, jeez, 2006, I’ve been enamored with the idea of the picnic wedding. I know that picnic weddings conjure up images of an overwhelmingly rustic wedding in most people’s minds, but they shouldn’t. A picnic wedding – yes, complete with blankets and baskets – can be as elegant or as rustic as you want it to be. Picnic doesn’t translate into sandwiches and sodas, after all! There could be anything in those baskets and maybe the pillows on the blankets are silk. Here’s some sweet inspiration to get your mind going:

    Gotta say, I really kind of hate this idea. Pretty, yes. But in no universe can I see making my grandparents, for example, or my father, who has back problems, sit through an entire wedding reception on the ground. Nevermind guests who, even if warned on the invitation but maybe they didn’t read carefully enough, show up in finery they don’t want grass stains on, or heels which will be constantly sinking into the ground.

    these are GORGEOUS. we’re planning on having a picnic style wedding actually at a picnic pavilion. I’d love to see how couples have decorated picnic tables and stuff for similar weddings.

    Love this. Some day the wert and I will do a recommitment schomoogie (So I get to wear a REALLY REALLY FAUNCY DRESS) and I am pretty much going to use your entire brain. Picnic blankets ROCK, I love the colors, and the one with all the white pillows.

    Hugs,
    C

  4. @SarahDances I don’t think it would be that hard to have a combo package kind of thing going on, with picnic blankets for most guests and then a nice area with chairs, maybe on a nearby patio for those who can’t sit on the ground comfortably or would prefer not to see how low they can go in heels and skirts. I think at a picnic wedding, you’ll get a lot of mingling versus just sitting – and I imagine there being plenty of chairs for the ceremony.

    @Melissa That sounds awesome – what, though, is a picnic pavilion? Can you share a link to the site if they’re online? I’d love to see some pics.

    @Chris Grundoon Heh, awesome!
